Director of Electrical Engineering

My client is a leading renewable energy contractor that operates in utility solar, wind and Transmissions & distributions. They are currently looking for Director of Electrical Engineering. This role will be a key figure in the business North American operation and have global reporting lines.

Summary: Direct and manage electrical engineering and electrical CAD design team.

Specific duties:

  • Leadership Accountability: Identify, deploy, and manage a high-performing team needed to accomplish business objectives. Provide a positive and engaging work environment by:
  • hiring outstanding talent;
  • aligning individual and team objectives to department and company objectives;
  • managing and supporting employee development and growth;
  • providing regular and direct feedback on performance and goal progress.
  • Directs engineering and CAD design activities on construction projects.
  • Directs engineering and CAD design activities on development and RFP support projects.
  • Manages department resources to allocate personnel to priority projects.
  • Provides construction support, for immediate resolution of critical issues.
  • Provides review and technical advice for design issues.
  • Establishes, reviews, and updates department standards and procedures.
  • Resolves items that are not covered in existing department standards and procedures.
  • Performs detailed design for construction, development, or RFP support projects.
  • Resolves interpersonal conflicts within the department.
  • Supports improvement of communication between departments.
  • Supports project tracking tool box creation and maintenance.
  • Develops tracking tools and methods to track and plan department resources.
  • Hosts weekly department meetings.
  • Coordinates department training.
  • Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced level of knowledge in:
    • Communication
      • Internally with Civil Engineers / CAD Designers, Electrical / Mechanical Engineers / CAD Designers, Project Managers, executive management, Contract Team, Estimating Team, Development Team, HSQE Department, Human Resources / Payroll /etc.
      • Externally with Client, Independent Review Engineer, Jurisdictional Agency, and Vendors
    • Personnel Management
    • Client Management
    • Organization
    • Understanding operational needs of the owners, utilities, grid and interconnection entities
    • Understands the commercial performance of power plants
    • MV collection system design
    • Knowledge of substation design
    • Understanding concepts of grounding studies
    • Power Systems Analysis
    • General Electrical Design
    • General Design for Constructability
    • Knowledge with Industry Standards
    • Knowledge or experience in solar would be an advantage


  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent (equivalent is 8 years of experience).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Must have 10+ years of experience in a similar position with relevant experience.
  • Must have a valid current driver license, eligible for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid current passport to travel outside the U.S.
